Jimmy Barnes’ Melbourne show moves to Rod Laver Arena to meet demand

Jimmy Barnes only just celebrated his 16th number one album with My Criminal Record and now even more fans can see him play live in Melbourne on October 12 with his concert shifting from Margaret Court Arena to the bigger Rod Laver Arena.

Ticket demand for Barnes' national Shutting Down Your Town tour has exceeded capacity for the smaller venue and new tickets will go on sale for Rod Laver Arena at 10am on Friday, June 28.

Concert organisers said the change of venue was made in response to calls and messages from Victorian fans asking for more tickets.

"Rather than allow online scalpers to start profiting at the expense of fans it was decided to shift the show to the larger venue so more people would have a chance to see Jimmy’s only Melbourne concert for 2019," organisers said in a statement.

All existing tickets for Margaret Court Arena need to be replaced with new tickets for the same night at Rod Laver Arena. Over coming weeks new tickets should be emailed automatically to the Ticketek account email used at the time of booking. If print-at-home tickets are not received by July 31,  customers are advised by concert organisers to check their order history online for an immediate download.

"Thanks to all you Victorians for coming out in such big numbers," Barnes said. "It’s really incredible and it’s not taken for granted. I look forward to screaming my thanks to each and every one of you at Rod Laver Arena."

Existing ticket holders will be seated at the front of each price category section at Rod Laver Arena, according to concert organisers, to ensure their new seats "fully reflect their original purchase and that they are as close to the stage as possible" at the show.

Jet will support Jimmy Barnes in Melbourne on October 12.
