To this day, it remains one of the most beloved and successful franchises of all time which has lived on in fans’ hearts for decades.
Harry Potter introduced the world to several iconic characters that continue to play a huge role in people’s lives – especially the Weasley family who were a core part of the franchise.
The welcoming, wholesome, and entirely red-headed Weasley family consisted of loving parents Arthur and Molly along with their seven children.
21 years after the release of Philosopher’s Stone, Daily Star have looked at what the members of Harry Potter’s favourite family are up to now.
Rupert Grint
Rupert Grint was the tender age of 11 when he was cast as Harry Potter’s best friend, Ron Weasley.
As a part of the golden trio, the actor soared to global stardom before he had even hit his teens and was one of the franchise’s most instantly loveable characters.
After wrapping the Harry Potter films, the now 33-year-old went on to star in indie movies such as Into the White (2012) and Moonwalkers (2015).
The actor followed in co-star Daniel Radcliffe’s footsteps and made his theatre debut in the 2013 West End play Mojo.
In 2014, he landed the leading role in Broadway play, It’s Only a Play, starring alongside Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane.
He is now star of the Apple TV series Servant, for which he received stellar reviews.
Rupert has been in a relationship with Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging actress Georgia Groome and the pair welcomed a daughter in May 2020.
Bonnie Wright
Bonnie Wright portrayed the youngest member of the Weasley clan, Ginny, and was just 9 years old when she took on the role.
She had a minor part in Philosopher’s Stone, but her character evolved into a fan-favourite and one of the strongest members of the story.
After Harry Potter, Bonnie, now 31, picked up another starring role in 2013's Before I Sleep.
That same year, she made her stage debut in a London production of Peter Ustinov's The Moment of Truth.
The actress found a flair for directing and made her debut as director and screen writer in 2012 with short film Separate We Come, Separate We Go.
Bonnie is now an ambassador for the charity Lumos, alongside Harry Potter alumni Evanna Lynch, while she also works as an activist with Greenpeace to end plastic pollution.
She was previously engaged to Harry Potter co-star Jamie Campbell Bower from April 2011 to June 2012.
On 20 March 2022, Bonnie confirmed that she had married her American boyfriend Andrew Lococo.
Julie Walters
Dame Julie Walters had a stellar career before, during, and after her portrayal of the iconic Molly Weasley.
Her incredible career has spanned nearly 50 years and seen her win various Bafta, Emmy and Golden Globe awards.
Aside from Harry Potter, her most famous films include Educating Rita (1983), Billy Elliot (2000), Calendar Girls (2003), Mamma Mia! (2008), and 2018’s Wild Rose.
The actress was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2018 and in 2020, announced that she would be stepping back from acting, particularly from large and demanding film roles.
The 72-year-old has been married to Grant Roffey since 1997 and the pair share a son together.
Mark Williams
The perfect parental figure – Arthur Weasley was caring, eccentric, and an all-round hilarious part of the films.
Mark Williams’ impressive career had already spanned two decades before he made his mark in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – the second instalment of the franchise.
Some of his most notable roles before playing patriarch of the Weasley’s include Horace in 101 Dalmations (1996) and Wabash in Shakespeare in Love (1998).
After Harry Potter, the actor reverted to television and has featured in several BBC series, including recurring appearances in Doctor Who and Red Dwarf.
The actor has appeared in many TV and film productions over the years, but currently stars as the titular character in BBC One’s Father Brown.
The 62-year-old is married to Dianne Williams and has one daughter.
Domhnall Gleeson
Domhnall Gleeson played the eldest son of the Weasley family, Bill, who didn’t feature until Deathly Hallows: Part 1.
He replaced actor Richard Fish, who appeared as Bill in a picture of the family in a newspaper during the third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
After his short stint in the films, Domhnall has since had an incredibly successful career in Hollywood.
The Irish actor has thoroughly proved his versatility in his roles, from romantic and socially clumsy Tim Lake in About Time (2013) to the sinister General Hux in the new trilogy of Star Wars films, including The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
He has starred in several Academy-Award nominated films, including 2014’s Ex Machina, romantic drama Brooklyn (2015), and the same year, starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in critically acclaimed movie, The Revenant.
The 38-year-old is the son of Brendan Gleeson who played the intriguing Auror Mad Eye Moody in the Harry Potter franchise.
Although Domhnall remains private about his love life, it’s rumoured that he’s been in a relationship with film producer Juliet Bonass for several years.
James & Oliver Phelps
For a decade, the hilarious and troublesome duo that were Fred and George Weasley stole the hearts of fans.
After that mass success they gained from Harry Potter, James and Oliver Phelps continued working together on a few projects, including short documentary A Mind’s Eye and TV movie Danny and the Human Zoo.
The 36-year-old twins also created a podcast called Normal Not Normal in which the latest series saw them reunite with several of their Harry Potter co-stars, including Alfie Enoch and Evanna Lynch.
Chris Rankin
Chris Rankin was 16 years old when he auditioned for the role of Percy Weasley.
Unlike several other members of his on screen family, Chris has kept a relatively low profile since the Harry Potter franchise concluded.
The now 38-year-old earned a degree in media production from the University of Lincoln in 2011 and has since worked behind the camera on shows like Downtown Abbey and Atlantis.
The former actor now runs the Brecon Little Theatre, a community arts charity in mid-Wales.
