Ewan McGregor’s daughter has expressed regret at calling her father’s girlfriend Mary Elizabeth Winstead “a piece of trash”.
Last month, Clara McGregor hit out at the actress following the breakdown of her parents’ marriage after 22 years together, and Ewan embarking on a relationship with Fargo co-star Winstead.
“It wasn’t the most mature way to go about things, but I was angry and upset,” she told The Times. “There had been a lot building up to it and a lot to deal with — not to make excuses or anything — but, yeah, it wasn’t my finest moment.”
Clare added: “I kept being tagged in this photograph and I was seeing negative things about my mom. I said how I felt and I didn’t want to apologise for it.
“It wasn’t the right way to go about things, but it’s a hard thing to wrap your head around when you feel you had this idea of what the family unit is and then to have that shift. It’s very weird.”
Ewan and wife Eve Mavrakis split last year, the latter confirming back in January that their divorce was going ahead, with the Star Wars actor citing “irreconcilable differences”.
Rumours originally circulated about the state of their marriage at the end of 2017 after Ewan was spotted several times with his Fargo co-star. However, the separation date on the actor’s filing is listed as May 28 of that year.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Ewan revealed that he would “totally do” another Star Wars movie, though admitted he had not been asked.
“There’s no plans as such to do it, as far as I know. I’ve been asked this question for years and years and I’d be happy to do it,” he said.
McGregor currently stars in Disney’s Christopher Robin, which is out in cinemas in the US and the UK now.
