Tonight all the Eurovision Song Contest hopefuls will gather in Tel Aviv, Israel to perform their 2019 entries. This year’s UK contest is Michael Rice with Bigger Than Us. The 21-year-old was a busker from Hartlepool who first caught public attention on 2014’s X Factor. The British singer received four yeses on the hit talent show with a cover of Whitney Houston’s I Look to You.
However, Rice only made it to the boot camp stage failing to make it to the live semi-finals of X Factor.
Next up, he entered the BBC’s All Together Now and won over that talent show’s 100 judges.
In fact, he won the whole show before being selected for Eurovision: You Decide.
Against five other contestants, he managed to top the public vote and qualify to be the UK entry for Eurovision 2019.

Rice’s song entry, Bigger Than Us was co-written by Swedish entry John Lundvik.
In fact, Lundvik was going to enter this year’s Eurovision with the song, but switched to Too Late For Love, leaving it free for Rice to perform.
In terms of Rice’s chances of winning, it’s sadly not looking good for the UK tonight.
According to Ladbrokes, Netherlands’ Arcade by Duncan Laurence is the favourite with odds of 8-11.
Meanwhile, the UK’s chances of finishing last far outweigh any of being crowned victorious this year.
Michael Rice’s Bigger than Us has odds of 150-1 to win, 12-1 to get nil points and shockingly 4-1 to finish last.
The UK hasn’t won Eurovision since 1997’s Love, Shine a Light by Katrina and the Waves, which was our nation’s fifth victory to date.
However, since then we’ve come last three times in 2003, 2008 and 2010. Well, fingers crossed for Rice.
