The iconic singer dedicated a performance of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” to the late rapper during the kickoff show for his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
Elton John was the latest artist to honor the late rapper Mac Miller with a dedication during his concert Saturday night.
The iconic singer kicked off his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Pennsylvania, and during that show paid tribute to Miller by dedicating his performance of "Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me" to the 26-year-old rapper, who was found dead inside his home on Friday. According to TMZ, he passed away from an apparent overdose.
"I’d like to dedicate this song to Mac Miller," he told the crowd, as reported by USA Today. "Unbelievably, 26 years of age, and passed away yesterday. It’s inconceivable that someone so young, and with so much talent, could do that. And I just would like to pass all of our love and best wishes to his loved ones, his family, his friends. And, Mac, wherever you are, I hope you’re happy now."
Real name Malcolm James McCormick, Miller began his career as part of the group The Ill Spoken, before releasing a number of mixtapes. He dropped his first album in 2011, "Blue Slide Park," which reached #1 on the charts. He’d go on to release four additional albums before his death and was scheduled to begin a tour next month.
Miller also produced and was featured on Ariana Grande’s hit 2013 single, "The Way." The two went public with their relationship in 2016, before splitting earlier this year. Grande paid a quiet tribute to Miller with a picture of the rapper on her Instagram page from their time together.
