    PA copy Crime author Peter Robinson, has died at the age of 72, his publisher has announced.

    The news was announced on Friday (October 7), with Robinson’s publishing house Hodder & Stoughton confirming the novelist passed away on Tuesday (October 4) following a brief illness.

    The Leeds-born star was best known for his crime novels featuring Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks which were later adapted into the series DCI Banks broadcast on ITV.

    The British series starred Stephen Tompkinson in the titular role and began in 2010, running for five seasons before concluding in 2016.
