Imagine Dragons‘ contribution for “Ralph Breaks the Internet” has gotten a music video treatment. On Tuesday, October 23, the Grammy-winning band unveiled the visuals for “Zero”. The video was directed by Dave Meyers, who has also worked for the likes of Ariana Grande and Travis Scott (II) in the past.
Daniel Platzman has a nice ski-ball skill, but no one seems to care about it when he shows his talent at the arcade. Meanwhile, Ben McKee gets recognition from some passersby who happen to watch him play “Sugar Rush”. Things are going well with him until he is accidentally hit with a football.
Given that the song is the soundtrack to a game-themed movie, the clip references some iconic aspects of video game culture such as Pac-Man and a character selection screen.
“Zero” will serve as the end-credit song of “Ralph Breaks the Internet”. In an interview with Zane Lowe of Beats 1, Reynolds said that the song was created with the film’s emotional theme in mind. “The song is a dichotomy in some ways, with sometimes heavy lyrics over pretty upbeat instrumentation,” he said. “The result is a tone that is somewhat bittersweet, which felt appropriate given the complexity of Ralph as a character.”
Directed by Rich Moore and Phil Johnston, “Ralph Breaks the Internet” takes place six years after the event of “Wreck-It Ralph“. Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz must risk it all by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save the latter’s video game “Sugar Rush”. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet to help navigate their way.
The movie opens in theaters across the nation on November 21.
