Cardi B Says She's 'Working Things Out' with Offset as Strip Club Bartender Assault Case Adjourned

Cardi B‘s strip club assault case is no closer to a resolution — but her relationship with estranged husband Offset may be.

Leaving court in Queens, New York on Thursday morning after her assault case was adjourned until April 4, the Grammy-nominated rapper was asked by reporters if she was “back with Offset” after the two split late last year amid rumors of infidelity. “We working things out, baby,” Cardi, 26, coyly replied as she slid on her sunglasses and made her way to a waiting car.

Early Thursday, TMZ reported that Cardi and the Migos rapper, 27, had reconciled in Atlanta after Offset reportedly changed his phone number and instituted a “no groupies” rule. Cardi quickly clapped back in a since-deleted tweet, writing, “TMZ why ya be lying. I haven’t even been in Atl since Christmas.” The couple are expected in the Georgia capital this weekend, as both rappers are performing at Super Bowl events.

The alleged assault occurred last August, when bartenders Baddie Gi and Jade of Angel’s Strip Club claimed that Cardi ordered an attack on the women because she believed her husband had had an affair with one of them, according to the New York Times and TMZ. A police spokesperson told CNN that Cardi was allegedly “throwing chairs, bottles and hookahs in the club at 3 a.m.” NBC New York reported Cardi was caught on camera tossing an ice bucket at the women.

In October, Cardi surrendered to police and was subsequently arrested, fingerprinted, had a mugshot taken and was charged with one count of assault and two counts of reckless endangerment, PEOPLE confirmed at the time.

“We’re aware of no evidence that she caused anybody any harm on that night,” the rapper’s attorney Jeff Kern told press outside the police station. “We expect that the matter is going to be resolved expeditiously.”

A lawyer for the alleged victims begged to differ.

Joe Tacopina, an attorney for the alleged victims, told PEOPLE in a statement: “Cardi B ordered and committed violent assaults against my clients, and is being called to justice for her crimes. Apparently, she thinks her celebrity status puts her above the law, since she has bragged to multiple people and on social media that she orchestrated these vicious attacks.”

Months later on Dec. 7 — the same morning the “Money” rapper received five Grammy nominations —  Cardi appeared in court on assault and reckless endangerment charges after a summons was issued for her connection with the attack.

The hearing proceeded quickly, with the judge issuing orders of protection for the alleged victims, according to the Associated Press. TMZ reports the rapper was warned to have no contact with either Baddie Gi or Jade, including comments or threats on social media, and was released without bail. The protective order was extended Thursday, according to NBC.

Cardi’s Thursday court appearance comes a little more than a month after the rapper announced on Instagram that she and Offset were calling it quits after 15 months of marriage.

In a video, which has since been deleted, Cardi announced the split on Dec. 5 and shared that although the pair — who share 6-month-old daughter Kulture — “grew out of love” they’re still “really good friends and we are really good business partners.”

“We got a lot of love for each other but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time,” she added. “It might take time to get a divorce and I’m going to always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter’s father.”

Amid infidelity rumors that continue to plague their public relationship, Offset shared, “I was partaking in activity that I shouldn’t have been partaking in, and I apologize. You know what I’m saying? For breaking your heart, for breaking our promise, for breaking God’s promise and being a selfish, messed up husband.”

Appreciating texts from her exes when they want a second chance, Cardi and the Migos rapper reunited during a vacation in Puerto Rico two weeks after she announced the split. Both shared videos from their trip on their respective Instagram Stories, which did not mention nor feature each other.

However, in photos obtained by TMZ, Cardi, who was dressed in a white bathing suit and blonde hair, and Offset, who was dressed in star-patterned swim trunks, were pictured riding a yellow jet ski together with the mother of one’s arms around her estranged husband’s waist.

Cardi was not pictured wearing her 8-carat diamond engagement ring or any ring on her left hand.

The trip came days after Offset pleaded for Cardi’s forgiveness in a video message, and then continued on to crash her performance during Rolling Loud festival with 2,000 stem roses that spelled out “Take Me Back Cardi” to beg her to reignite their romance. The Venus ET Fleur arrangement was worth $15,000, the company confirmed to PEOPLE.
