Cardi B Reveals Her Daughter Isn’t Allowed To Listen To This Song

Being a parent in the spotlight isn’t easy. When it comes to top actors, musicians, and other celebs, their every parenting move made in public likely to be judged. It’s not uncommon for parents — famous or otherwise — to do their best to shield their kids from a myriad of things, and sometimes that includes their own work. It seems Cardi B is taking that tack. Based on an Instagram Live video, fans have deduced that there’s one song from the rapper’s repertoire that her daughter, Kulture Kiari Cephus, is not allowed to hear.

During the Instagram Live, Cardi seemed to be letting loose for the holiday, sporting silver hair up in buns and a white and yellow tie-dyed jumpsuit. She started off singing to one of her hit songs. Then, in the background, Kulture started approaching her mom. The rapper eventually noticed her daughter in the background and proceeded to promptly shut down the performance, turn off the track and take a large gulp of wine (in that order).

Can you guess what song Cardi doesn’t want Kulture listening to — at least, not yet? Keep reading.

Cardi B's chart-topping hit may not be suitable for toddlers

Loyal fans (and just about anybody who followed mainstream music in 2020) can probably guess that the song in question is “WAP,” Cardi B’s chart-topping collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion. Not only did the explicit track — which celebrates sex and the female body (one part in particular) – debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it stayed there for four weeks.

We can understand why Cardi wouldn’t want Kulture — her child with husband and Migos rapper Offset — listening to “WAP” because of the mature lyrics. Plenty of grown-ups were up in arms when the track dropped. In fact, conservatives came out in droves against the song, with one political commentator referring to it as “trash and depravity” in a since-deleted tweet (via Rolling Stone).

That being said, the song’s creator only seemed bemused by the attacks. “I’m such a freak that I didn’t think it would be a big deal,” Cardi said in an interview with i-D. “I didn’t think people would think it was so out of this world.” Then, she quipped: “They keep talking and the numbers keep going up.”

Touché, Cardi. Touché.
