Cardi B opens up about sexual assault

But Cardi B’s rise to fame was not without its challenges. Recently, the singer opened up about a terrible experience that she had early on in her career. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Cardi B recounted a time when she walked off a photoshoot because she was assaulted by the photographer. “I will never forget how I went to shoot for this magazine and the photographer, he was trying to get close to me like, ‘Yeah, you want to get in this magazine?’ Then he pulled his di*k out. I was so fu*king mad, and I was just like, ‘This is crazy,’” the actress shared.

Cardi B then explained that she chose to walk out of the shoot due to the photographer’s grossly inappropriate behavior. Unfortunately, when the rapper reported the behavior of the photographer, the owner of the magazine failed to do anything about the situation. “I was like, ‘[You’re] fucking bugging. You know what? I’m out. “You know what’s so crazy? I told the magazine owner and he just looked at me like, ‘So? And,’” the “Bodak Yellow” rapper explained.

The singer went on to explain that instances like this happen frequently in everyday life, it’s not just something that happens in the entertainment industry. “When I see the Me Too movement — there’s girls from the hood I know that went through the same type of treatment, like they make you feel like you got to do a certain type of thing for the most bullsh*t. It happens, really, every day,” Cardi B said adamantly.

Cardi B recounts another experience in her career

Unfortunately, this isn’t even the first time that something like this happened to Cardi B. Back when she was pursuing a career as a video vixen she had a very similar experience. “When I was trying to be a vixen, people were like, ‘You want to be on the cover of this magazine?’ Then they pull their d—s out,” Cardi B shared. The “Press” rapper then went on to highlight how respectability politics play a role in instances such as these. “I bet if one of these women stands up and talks about it, people are going to say, ‘So what? You’re a ho. It don’t matter,’” she told Cosmopolitian back in 2018.

The age of the #MeToo movement
