Brian May recovering after felt like nerve pain ‘paralysed my brain’ in ‘nightmare world’

Earlier this month, Brian May revealed to fans that he had ripped his Gluteus Maximus “in a moment of over-enthusiastic gardening”, which ended up in a trip to hospital. The 72-year-old has since been recovering at home with the use of crutches but has been really struggling with the severe pain after his injury. Nevertheless, the Queen legend’s latest update sees him reassure fans he is on the mend and hopes to record another mico-concert soon for his Instagram page.

The caption of his latest video read: “Hi from Bri, I’ve got some great help with pain management and rehabilitation.

“Today I can sit and potter slowly around holding on to things with almost no pain. It’s incredible what real pain does to you.

“I’ve always been a bit of a big shot about my tolerance to pain levels – like not getting Novocaine jabs at the dentist or whatever.

“But this nerve pain which came to inhabit my body about three weeks ago – no, it wasn’t a glute thing after all – has paralysed my brain.”

I felt it took over my personality. I woke up feeling that somehow the pain WAS me, and I was struggling to get back in my body. And I did give in and take the heavy duty painkillers, and in the end I was in a nightmare world. The only thing to do was kick it all and come out. But I could only do that because I got some great physio help and some osteopathy. I’ll tell you the whole story sometime, but for now … happy weekend – I hope everyone of you can find a spot to enjoy the life-giving sunshine. Bri

While in the new video, May said: “Hey folks, just thought I’d say hi.

“[I’m now] clean-shaven as I felt like getting a beard was feeling sorry for myself.

“I feel a bit more…a bit more like me at the moment.

“I’m in this pretty small garden, relaxing in lots of wind, becoming more aware of what’s happening outside.”

On the political handling of the crisis, May said: “Increasingly astonished at the antics of the government, in the face of this pandemic.

“What a story, my god. What a catalogue of…well you have to say disasters really.

“But we’re coming through in someways, I guess, and learning…imagine what we’re learning.

“So I’m kind of back in the world a little bit.”

He teased: “So just wanted to say hi and I might even get in my little music room tonight and play some music.

“Who knows? God bless you all.”

May has been spending lockdown in his London home with his wife Anita Dobson.

Apart from entertaining fans with micro-concerts, he’s remotely recording a Queen and Adam Lambert charity single with Roger Taylor and the singer called You Are The Champions.
