ASAP Rocky does support set after Red Hot Chili Peppers in last minute switch-up

A$AP Rocky, 33, was set to perform as the support act for the Red Hot Chili Peppers at a gig in Manchester but ended up doing a shorter show after the main act.

The American rap star, 34, who welcomed a baby boy with music sensation Rihanna, played at Old Trafford on Wednesday (June 22) but only ended performing for 20-minutes “due to unforeseen circumstances.”

Fans were first graced with a performance from Grammy Award-winning rapper Thundercat which was then set to be followed by a performance from A$AP.

However, digital screens around the stadium alerted the crowd that A$AP would be absent for the opening performance.

The sign read: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, A$AP Rocky will now play immediately after the Red Hot Chili Peppers.”

Rocky, whose official name is Rakim Mayers, had originally been set to perform for 45 minutes, between 7pm and 7.45pm but did a shorter performance lasting around 20 minutes.

Many fans took to social media afterwards to share their confusion.

One confused concert attendee wrote: “Been going to gigs for 30 odd years and never seen anything like it. Many disappointed fans. Bizarre end to the night.”

Another shared their rage and penned: “A$AP Rocky turned up late as support for Red Hot Chili Peppers, so they announced he was on after Chili Peppers instead. Of course, every f***r is leaving because 90% of the people here are bald dads. ASAP Rocky more like Late Rocky, am I right, lads?”

A third tweeted: “A$AP missing his set and then performing only a couple of songs. What a disappointment.”

Daily Star have contacted A$AP’s management for comment.

The Praise The Lord hitmaker recently opened up about fatherhood and that he and his girlfriend Rihanna will be “cool” and not regular parents.

It is the first child for the couple who have been dating since 2020 and A$AP explained why he thinks his son will be able to look up to him and Rihanna in awe.

He told Dazed and Confused magazine: “I hope to raise open-minded children. Not people who discriminate.

"And I’m not trying to describe a saint, but realistically, I just want a cool child with cool parents.”
