Wife’s horror at husband’s porn secret – after walking in on him in ‘movie room’

If you’ve been married to someone for a long time, you probably think you know most things about them.

Liz* thought exactly that about Jason, her spouse of 15 years who she has kids with, until she noticed something was a bit off.

Her husband started to become secretive, which led her to believe he might be having an affair – but she never found any evidence.

She put her suspicions to one side as they were "generally OK"; he told her he loved her often and they had a healthy sex life.

Until the "horrific" moment she discovered he had been hiding a very big secret from her: his porn habit.

While watching porn is not out of the ordinary, the mum was shocked to learn her husband watched it for "several hours a day" when he told her he was on long work calls.

"I was rushing to take our sons to soccer. The boys said goodbye to Jason who said he couldn’t attend the match because he had a conference call coming from overseas that he couldn’t miss," she told Kidspot.

She rushed back inside to get their shin pads, into what the family call the "movie room".

The door was ajar and Liz was "horrified" by what she saw.

"He was sitting on the sofa, totally naked. I screamed and called him a disgusting pig. So that was how I discovered his porn addiction," she confessed. "Let’s just say it involved incredibly young girls dressed in school uniforms."

Later that night, Liz claims he called to say he was at his parents house, admitting he watches porn for several hours a day – but he promised to get help.

They agreed he was to look after the kids the next day while Liz went to see her sister.

Liz said she had an argument with her sister and returned home to find the kids playing in the playroom with their father nowhere to be soon.

"Yes, he was in the ‘movie room’ watching one of his pornos," she said. "That was it for me. I realised I had to leave. I couldn’t leave him alone with our kids – what if they saw this filth?"

She looked through his back catalogue and was not pleased by what she found, using it as "evidence" when they divorced.

Jason got a new girlfriend not long after breaking up, and Liz now wonders whether she knows or cares about his habit.

There’s no real consensus among psychology professionals about whether porn addiction is an actual condition, but it’s a hotly debated topic – and no shortage of people have come forward to admit they have one.

An addiction is defined by the American Society of Addiction Medicine as an "inability to consistently abstain" from something that causes problems with one’s behaviours and interpersonal relationships.
