CANDY STRIPE SHIRT
You probably own a simple, elegant shirt. I don’t need to list its sartorial selling points. But I am going to suggest that you buy another — this time with candy stripes. Once you get past the fear that you will look like a deck chair, you’ll wonder how you ever got by without one.

FROM BOARDROOM TO BEACH
Tucked into a pencil skirt for the office, worn with wide-leg trousers for an event and open, over swimwear on holiday. There’s nowhere your candy stripes can’t take you this summer.
BRAND TO KNOW
If shirts are your thing then With Nothing Underneath is a brand that should be on your radar. At £95, its striped boyfriend shirts aren’t cheap, but are well worth the investment.
You can find plenty of good quality styles on the High Street, too — and it’s a trend you can drop a small fortune on, should you wish. Victoria Beckham has a blue and white stripe for £550 (yes, you read that right), Acne has a pink one for £250, and there’s yellow at Max Mara for £165.
SMART SLEEVES
Keep your eyes peeled for classic cuts with a twist. The Boden design I’m wearing here has the added bonus of puff sleeves, which I love. It’s linen, which means it creases the second you look at it, but that’s sort of the point.
