Was Little Caesars Just Caught Selling DiGiorno Pizzas?

For DiGiorno Pizza, imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery.

In a video posted to Twitter on Sunday, October 7, a social media user standing in a Little Caesars restaurant filmed what appeared to be a shopping cart full of frozen DiGiorno pizzas behind the Little Caesars counter. A woman wearing some type of identification around her neck stands next to the pizza-packed cart, though it’s unclear if she is a Little Caesars employee.

The Twitter user who filmed the questionable interaction made sure to zoom in on the Little Caesars sign prior to also capturing a close-up of the cart full of DiGiorno pre-made pies. “This can’t be happening right in front of me,” he wrote, intimating Little Caesars was selling DiGiorno pizzas instead of making pies of its own.

However, a spokesperson for Little Caesars tells Us Weekly that despite the incriminating evidence, this was all just a big misunderstanding. “Of course, Little Caesars only serves freshly baked pizzas made from fresh dough. After some investigating today, it turns out that what appeared in this video was a funny coincidence,” the statement began.

According to the spokesperson, this specific Little Caesars is located within a Kmart, which might help explain the video. “On that day, this Kmart received a few complaints from customers about having purchased expired DiGiorno pizzas from that location, and because it was so close to closing time, the Kmart manager directed his employee to temporarily store them in a cooler adjacent to the Little Caesars location for disposal in the morning,” the statement continued.

“I can confirm that no DiGiorno pizzas were baked or served at this Little Caesars location.”

Reasonable explanation aside, that didn’t stop star Chrissy Teigen, who is known for her humorous food tweets, from weighing in. In fact, Teigen, 32, posted the viral video on her own account and captioned it, “the only little caesars I wanna go to.”

What’s more? The incident has also lead Little Caesars and DiGiorno to have a playful exchange on Twitter. “We if we told you that… We have no idea what’s going on. All we know is that we’ve watched this no less than 128 times,” DiGiorno tweeted.

Several hours later, Little Caesars responded and joked the store in question has a “trade-in program,” suggesting customers were swapping DiGiorno pizzas for pies from Little Caesars.
