The wives of some of the sporting industry's most wealthy football players are no strangers to expensive gifts and glittering diamonds, with their engagement rings being no exception.

Spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on a single bit of bling might sound ludicrous to the majority of Brits, but for the Premier League's elite, that's only a week's salary.

Throughout the 2000s, we've seen endless engagements hit headlines, with some marriages lasting still today, and others breaking down shortly after.

However, one thing they all have in common is their huge diamond sparklers… Here are some of the WAGs' most expensive engagement rings.

Kate and Rio Ferdinand – £250,000

Rio asked Kate to be his wife in November 2018 with an eye-watering £250,000 sparkler.

The loved-up couple, who had been dating for almost two years, uploaded a photo on Instagram to announce their engagement joy.

"The perfect end to our holiday… how could the answer not be yes," Kate wrote alongside a snap of herself being cuddled by her husband-to-be at the time.

Rio and Kate married at the stunning five-star luxury D Maris Bay hotel in Turkey in front of close friends and family, including Rio’s three children from his previous marriage.

Their pair welcomed their son, Cree, on December 18, 2020.

Cheryl and Ashley Cole – £275,000

Although their relationship ended in doom, once upon a time, Cheryl and Ashley Cole were showbiz's dream couple.

The fiery lovebirds got engaged during a romantic holiday in Dubai in 2005.

Meghan Markle could run for President as agent says it's 'not beyond the realm of possibility'

Ashley, who had been dating the Girls Aloud starlet for eight months, took his future fiancée for a camel ride, before popping the question with a £275,000 ring.

He then toasted Cheryl’s answer with champagne and strawberries.

After their whirlwind engagement, WAG-to-be Cheryl told Mail Online that Ashley got down on one knee before asking for her hand in marriage.

“Ashley went down on one knee. He's such a gentleman. It was all very romantic, and I still can’t quite believe it.”

Coleen and Wayne Rooney – £250,000

Childhood sweethearts Coleen and Wayne first met in their native Croxteth, Liverpool when the future football star asked Ms McLoughlin on a date after offering to fix her bike on the street.

Wayne made his professional debut for Everton in 2002, aged 16, and he proposed to 17-year-old Coleen in a petrol station in 2003 with a four-carat, emerald-cut diamond ring.

The couple married at a lavish £5million ceremony on the Italian Riviera five years later in June 2008.

Since then, they have had their fair share of ups and downs, but have welcomed four beautiful boys ever since: Kai, ten, Klay, seven, Kit, four, and Cass, two.

Katie Goodland and Harry Kane – £180,000

In July 2017, Harry Kane asked Katie to be his wife during a romantic getaway to the Bahamas.

The Spurs and England striker got down on one knee on a beach to ask the question – then revealed on Twitter that "she said yes!"

The couple had been together since they met in their school days, and were enjoying a family holiday with their bay daughter Ivy Jane at the time.

Katie and Harry have since welcomed their second daughter Vivienne in August 2018.

The pair married in the summer of 2019, with Kane announcing that he had married his "best friend".

The Tottenham striker celebrated his joyous day by posting this message: "Finally got to marry my Best Friend! I love you."

Abby Clancy and Peter Crouch – £200,000

Stunning model Abbey bumped into husband Peter Crouch back in 2006 whilst they both were at a mutual pal's house party.

They soon started dating and Peter popped the question in July 2009, with a ring worth a whopping £200,000.

In 2011 the couple exchanged vows, and have since gone on to have four children together.

The Liverpudlian couple moved to a huge family home in Surrey back in 2016, which has plenty of room for daughters Sophia and Liberty, and their sons Johnny and Jack.

Toni and John Terry – £250,000

Former England and Chelsea captain John Terry splurged when proposing to his wife Toni, with a diamond ring worth an eye-watering £250,000.

The happy couple wed in 2007, with a very fancy ceremony at Blenheim Palace.

Toni revealed in an interview with The Sun that when she first met John, he was only earning £48 a week as an apprentice.

She said: "We hit it off straight away and I thought he was very nice. I had no idea he was a footballer to start with until I began seeing him on the TV.

“We started going out for dinners. I would always pay because he didn’t have much money."

Things definitely turned around after John, 40, hit it big time playing for Chelsea FC, and is now retired from the game, with an estimated net worth of around £50million.
