Two people missing after gas explosion destroys bungalow

Two people are feared missing after a suspected gas explosion destroyed a bungalow in Newmarket this lunchtime.

A aerial image of what remains of the property shows a scene of devastation.

A spokeswoman from Suffolk County Council confirmed "there are two people unaccounted for" following the fire.

A search dog has been spotted near the scene.

The spokeswoman added: "We don’t know if they are away or if they were in the house."

Emergency services raced to the scene just after 12.15pm and nearby roads have been closed off.

One of the firefighters told Cambridgeshire Live: “Three fire engines responded to this and they were faced with multiple explosions in the rear of the property and there was severe structural damage to the property.

“It was quite a big bungalow […] and the rear of the bungalow is totally destroyed by the fire.”
