Tragic young mum-of-two dies after car crashes with lorry on busy motorway

A young mum-of-two has been named as the victim who died in a crash involving a lorry.

Kayleigh Gill, 22, was a passenger when a car and a lorry crashed on the M5 in Devon at 5.50am on January 14.

The mum was airlifted to Derrirford Hospital after the collision where she remained for five days.

After undergoing hours of surgery in a bid to save her life, she died on Friday despite the best efforts of medics.

Kayleigh’s brother Sean has spoken about his much-loved sister after a fundraising page was set up, with thousands of pounds donated within hours.

It reads: "Kayleigh Gill was tragically taken from us far too soon at the young age 22 after a tragic accident where a car and lorry collided on the M5 on monday 14th January.

"Kayleigh sadly died later in Derriford Hospital on 18th january. Whilst in Derriford Kayleigh had undergone two neurosurgeries. Shortly after her death some of her organs were donated to help change other peoples lives.

"Kayleigh would have liked this as she was such a kind caring person.  Kayleigh was a mum to two beautiful boys , Isaac who is nearly 4 and Arthur who is nearly 2.

"She was a loving fiance to Dominic. Kayleigh was a beloved daughter to Steve and Sarah as well as being an amazing sister to her two older brothers and two younger sisters.

"Kayleigh was loved and cherished by so many her friends and family have shown this by all the loving tributes they have written about her from loving memories and the hours of laughter shared.

"Kayleigh was the most amazing mum to her two boys, she doted on them they was her world. Kayleigh will live on through her boys and everyone will make sure they know how much she loved them."

The message adds: "All funds raised will go towards Kayleigh’s funeral and  if there are any funds left over they will go to her two precious boys. To anybody who wants to contribute  we would be so grateful."

Friends have also been paying tribute to Kayleigh via the fundraising page.

Lucy McManus said: "Kayleigh was more than just a great friend she was that one friend who was with me on one of my worst days in my life to date.

"She held my hand though everything. She was truly “always a phone call away” she loved her boys with the whole of her heart. All of the laughs we had throughout the years I will never forget!

"We even held a bootsale together and I will never forget her kind soul giving some of the kids toys away as she wanted them to be loved. She always put others first. Love you dearly Kay! Sleep tight beautiful angel. Xxx"
