TK Maxx recalls Star Wars toy over fears it could cause electric shocks

The so-called Star Wars Holopane 25 Lightbox enables customers to bring their favourite Star Wars characters to life by inserting a holopane, which creates a 3D effect.

The toys were sold in TK Maxx stores in December 2018 and January 2019, and they came in designs of Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Chewbacca and Rey.

The new product recall applies to the products that came supplied with blue GaoLe-branded AAA batteries.

The retailer has found that some of these batteries could leak, which may pose a safety risk to its users, according to a statement on the retailer's website.

Units supplied with other batteries are said not to be affected and are safe to use.

If you've bought any of the recalled products, you should stop using them immediately and return it to any TK Maxx store for a full refund.

You don't need to have the receipt to get your money back.

Your product recall rights

As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.

But it's often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.

If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.

When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you – the customer – to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don't there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.

If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.

They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.

In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full redund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.

You should not be charged for any recall work – such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item.

The Sun has asked TK Maxx how much they were sold for, but we haven't yet heard back.

They're currently on sale for £6.99 on thegiftandgadgetstore.com, or you can pick them up at Hamleys for £20.

If you have any queries or concerns, you can call TK Maxx's customer service on 01923 473561 or send an email to [email protected].
