TikTok chair challenge that women can do but men can’t is baffling everyone

TikTok is a relatively new social media app that is used for creating short videos.

As with all new platforms, many people have been creating trending content on the app which is usually in the form of funny lip-sync battles and dance routines.

But the latest TikTok challenge simply involves lifting a chair, so you might think it a bit strange that it's now gone viral.

It's called the "chair challenge" and it's baffling the internet because only women seem to be able to complete it.

The trick involves standing three feet away from a wall, which appears to be just two steps back.

You then have to bend over at a 90-degree angle with your head against the wall.

Next, place the chair underneath yourself and attempt to stand up while holding onto the piece of furniture.

The challenge started on TikTok but is now sweeping all social media platforms, with both men and women taking on the challenge.

It sounds simple, but in the dozens of short clips posted on the internet, only women seem to be able to do it.

Men, on the other hand, struggle to stand upright while holding onto the chair.

The internet is literally awash with frustrated brothers, dads and boyfriends failing to lift the chair.

In one TikTok video posted on Twitter, a male and female colleague go head-to-head.

In a video that's been viewed over 2,000 times on the J.C. Cardinals account, a woman can be seen lifting a chair with ease and smiling at the camera while her male colleague fails to stand upright.

And now scientists have come up with a couple of theories as to why this is happening.

Some people have claimed it's all to do with our centre of gravity, while others believe it depends on the size of our feet.

Speaking about the challenge, US scientist Jeremy Johnson wrote an explanation in a blog post.

He said: "Interestingly enough, many girls can successfully complete this challenge, while most boys cannot.

"Why? Again, it's all about the centre of mass.

"The centre of mass for most girls is lower to the hips, while the centre of mass in boys is much higher.

"Therefore, for most girls, the centre of mass while bent over the chair is above their feet, while the centre of mass for most boys is above the chair."
