When Meghan Markle announced she’s expecting her second child with Prince Harry on Sunday, she did so wearing a dress with a sweet tie to her son Archie.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared the pregnancy news with a new black-and-white photo taken via iPad by photographer Misan Harriman, a friend of the couple’s.

In the sweet snap, Markle, 39, rests her head on 36-year-old Harry’s lap, cradling her baby bump in a Carolina Herrera gown that appears to be in a shade of white or cream.

According to People, the flowing frock was custom-made for the Duchess while she was pregnant with Archie, who turns 2 on May 6.

The American fashion label’s creative director, Wes Gordon, has been friends with Markle for years; she even featured him on her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig, in 2014. “I am obsessed,” she wrote at the time, praising Gordon’s “beautiful, glorious, effortlessly sexy” designs.

Before marrying Prince Harry, Markle sat front row at one of Gordon’s runway shows for his namesake label in 2015, and she’s continued to support his work since he landed at Carolina Herrera in 2018.

For that year’s Trooping the Colour ceremony, Markle wore a pink off-the-shoulder look that proved surprisingly controversial, and while pregnant with Archie in 2019, she donned a blue printed Carolina Herrera gown during her royal tour of Morocco.

The Duchess’ choice of dress wasn’t the only symbolic element of her pregnancy announcement; the Sussexes’ happy news came exactly 37 years after UK newspapers announced that Princess Diana was expecting Prince Harry.
