The Queen is ‘miles apart’ from Prince Philip who’s living a ‘separate life’

As the Duke of Edinburgh turns 98 it seems he is spending more and more time apart from his wife.

On June 10 Prince Philip came within two short years of receiving a birthday telegram from Her Majesty.

While the day was a cause for celebration, it also highlighted how the royal couple are now working on different schedules as they continue on into their twilight years.

A royal source told The Express : “The Queen feels the Duke has earned a proper retirement.

"She knows him too well, if he was still at the centre of royal life he'd feel he had to be involved.

"Being at Wood Farm means that he's not too far away, but far enough to be able to relax."

The Duke divides his time between Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate and Windsor Castle.

Of late Prince Philip has been spending more of his time in Norfolk than Berkshire.

While Her Majesty can be separated from her beloved for several weeks at a time, the couple are believed to speak on the phone every day.

Charlie Proctor, editor of Royal Central, told Daily Star Online that Philip spends little time at Buckingham Palace.

He said: “Unlike most married couples, The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh often live miles apart, with Prince Philip spending hardly any time at Buckingham Palace these days."

Mr Proctor said the Duke viewed Buckingham Palace as a work place.

With the 93-year-old Queen still putting in the hard graft in central London, Prince Philip finds himself away from his wife in a bid to enjoy the peace and quiet of the country.

On the day he officially won the title of longest-serving consort in British history, the Duke had his birthday marked with a 41-gun salute at noon in London's Hyde Park.

He celebrated his big day with a private party.
