A student lost six stone in the same number of months after his confidence hit an "all time low".
With his weight affecting his self-esteem and well being, John Doran decided to embark on an intense fitness regime.
The 24-year-old from Newcastle, County Down completed a 12 week training and nutrition programme at 'Elite Fitness' gym, losing 30lbs in the process, Belfast Live reported.
Over the next three months he lost a further 70lbs.
Now having "never felt better", the business student has spoken of how his mental health has improved since he met personal trainer David Rice.
He said: "I wanted to start my weight loss transformation because it was having an affect on my self-esteem and overall well-being, basically I was at an all time low in my life.
"I chose Davy at Elite Fitness to help me through my journey because it is in my local gym and I knew of people who have went there before and have had amazing transformations – so I thought I'd give it a go.
"And Davy was brilliant throughout the whole process always pushing me even when I had nothing left. I definitely would recommend him. I've made lifestyle changes and have cut out all heavily fat orientated food, removed eating chocolate bars and other things throughout the day.
"I purchase meals from Health Grain who provide 10 meals Monday-Friday and then I make my own healthy food for the weekends. I also rarely drink anymore which has helped me lose the weight.
"In terms of my confidence and mental health, I feel like it's never been better.
"Before the gym I was quite reluctant to talk to people and just didn't want to do anything really. I didn't enjoy life that much but now things are on the up."
Personal trainer David spoke of his slight doubts about whether John would stick with it when he first hit the gym.
"I have had quite a lot of transformations over a lifetime of clients, and John's is one that I won't forget," he said.
"He was a complete beginner who like most was probably very nervous and unsure of what was ahead of him."
David went on to explain the fitness regime he laid out for John.
"Our first sessions consisted of basic movement and mobility again, and tailoring it to suit his level and needs along the way – just finding out which way he enjoyed most," the trainer continued.
"Believe it or not it has been mainly weight lifting and cardio he enjoyed, so I mixed it up into a strength and conditioning programme to suit the stuff he liked but little did he know that it was going to be his newly found passion for fitness, sports & nutrition.
"John didn't just learn more than most personal trainers, he lost almost seven stone before actually maintaining weight to build some muscle in to his new transformed body which he worked consistently for over the space of two 12 week stages.
"In such a short space of time he was doing something that was making him clearly very happy and satisfied and for me it was such an enjoyment to watch. He was astonishing most of my clients and still does today.
"He never made excuses at any moment and always kept variety inside his programming to cover a full body transformation.
"John endured more than enough sweaty days to achieve this. And I have now gained a very good life long friend, hopefully soon to be staff working alongside our team helping those who have a similar story to come, and who’s found his true passion and love for a more positive and productive lifestyle."
