Shopping basket hack could nab you huge savings at ASOS, Tesco and M&S

Martin Lewis has shared some nifty tricks that could nab you some bargains at the likes of Tesco, ASOS, M&S and Asda.

The Money Saving Expert was back on our screens last night for his weekly Martin Lewis Money Show, where he revealed his top tips for shopping online in the run up to Christmas.

With the current lockdown shutting stores across the country until December 2, many customers have resorted to online sites for presents.

But there are three clever hacks that, if followed, could save people some much-needed money ahead of the festive season.

Below is all you need to know.

Abandon online shopping baskets

One of the best tricks involves leaving products in online baskets but not going through and paying for them.

Martin explained: “Abandon online shopping baskets to try and score a discount. Sign in so you are registered, add an item and walk away.

"Don't buy it and you may well within the next few days be sent a code to entice you back.

"Some people have recorded successes in ASOS, New Look, Asda and Tesco."

The financial whizz went on to say one lucky shopper managed to nab a 10% discount from M&S by leaving items in the basket.

The trick is not a sure-fire guarantee, but it is definitely worth a go.

Shopping around

If you know the exact brand you want and are looking for a deal, the best thing to do is to check other retailers that stock the items.

Martin said: "If you have a specific brand you want a discount on and you can't find it, the key is to look at the discounts on at department stores.

“For example, check Debenhams, Selfridges and Moss Boss, which can be cheaper for a Ted Baker suit."

Get free delivery

Perhaps the simplest of all the hacks is by ensuring you aren’t paying unnecessarily for delivery.

To get around this, Martin urged customers to “pump their fee up”.

"The minimum spend for free delivery at John Lewis is £50, at ASOS it's £35, at M&S it's £50 and Amazon is £20,” he said.

"So here is an example. You are buying a John Lewis jumper for £49. You are going to have to pay £3.50 delivery which would make it £52.50.

"Instead, add £2 sticky tat from their shop and you're paying £51 and getting the tat as well."
