Downey, who had first appeared as Iron Man in 2008, soon rose to become the mandated boss of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, making more money than his Avengers co-stars regularly. As per the Koimoi, though Downey’s base compensation in later Marvel films was over $20 million, he struck a contract with the company where he received a part of the proceeds. Downey earned a rumored $75 million for Avengers: Infinity War due to this one-of-a-kind deal. His Avengers co-stars, including Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans, made between $15 and $20 million for their roles in the movie but did not have such a hefty backend arrangement.

According to Hindustan Times, Marvel raised the criteria at which performers might claim a cut of the revenues. Downey’s worth had been so high that he has been hired for a recurring role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tom Holland’s first solo film as the iconic figure, for an estimated $15 million. Downey was engaged in the movie for three days, averaging $5 million each day. Having fifteen minutes of airtime, the actor earned $1 million per minute for his contribution to the picture. Homecoming had an estimated budget of $175 million. And also, its successor, Spider-Man: Far From Home, cost a whopping $165 million, owing primarily to the absence of Downey.

Downey’s MCU tenure ended with Endgame in 2019, yet rumors of his reappearance in Black Widow continue.
