Prince William smiles in a virtual selfie alongside NHS staff as he makes surprise video call to the Critical Care teams at Aintree and the Royal hospital – before praising the ‘fantastic job’ they’re doing

The Duke of Cambridge made a surprise video call to the Critical Care teams at Aintree and the Royal hospitals. 

Taking to Instagram, @LiverpoolHospitals penned: ‘Critical Care teams from Aintree and the Royal recently had a surprise video call from The Duke of Cambridge. 

‘He praised their work during the #COVID19 pandemic, saying: ‘You are doing a fantastic job and the country is so grateful.’ 

Alongside the caption, the NHS staff, who are all dressed in their work uniform, can be seen in a selection of photographs – including one where they are posing in a selfie with Prince William – who is virtually present on the laptop screen.

Steve Warburton, Chief Executive, commented: ‘I was incredibly proud that our critical care team received a surprise video call with The Duke of Cambridge. 

‘It was such a special way to acknowledge how hard everyone has been working. It has been a fantastic boost to morale!’ . . Thank you @kensingtonroyal.

And the royal wasn’t the only one to commend the NHS staff who have been working tirelessly on the frontline amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Taking to the comments section, one person enthused: ‘So proud of our city’s NHS efforts – stars…each and everyone of you.’

A second added: ‘Well done to the all the staff in both hospitals at this hard time -amazing job yous have always done and always god bless yous all,’ while a third penned: ‘Love this. Am so proud of our NHS in the Royal and my Aintree.’

It comes a day after his wife Kate Middleton shared a video message celebrating the ‘amazing’ entries to her photographic project documenting life under lockdown.

The mother-of-three wrote: ‘There have been so many amazing entries to Hold Still over the last few weeks.

‘From families up and down the country showing how they are adapting to life during lockdown, through to some of the most amazing NHS and social care staff who are putting their lives on the line to save the lives of others.

‘But it isn’t too late to take part. So please take a moment to capture what life is like for you, because together I hope that we can build a lasting illustration of just how our country pulled together during the pandemic. I can’t wait to share the final 100 images with you.’
