Police ‘seriously concerned’ for babies who vanished with their parents

Detectives have said they have serious concerns for a baby brother and sister who went missing along with their parents.

Nate Saunders, who is just 18 months old and his sister, named Kiya Smart, is six months old, have not been seen since the early hours of Wednesday.

They are believed to be with parents Kayleigh Smart, 33, and Neil Saunders, 34, and anyone who sees them has been urged to call 999.

Posting on social media, Lancashire Police said the siblings were last seen at an address in Skelmersdale in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police said the parents have links to the Merseyside area as well as Lancashire, the Manchester Evening News reports .

The statement said: "While police believe the two children are with their parents, Kayleigh Smart, 33, and Neil Saunders, 34, there are serious concerns for their welfare.

"There is also a suggestion they may have travelled to Ireland."

Anyone with information is now being asked to come forward.

Police have also issue a direct appeal to the parents.

Detective Inspector Steve Monk said: "I would like to stress that our immediate concern is the safety of these two young children and I would urge anyone who sees the parents or who knows where they may be to get in touch.

"Equally I would urge Kayleigh and Neil to get in touch if they see this appeal so that we can establish the children are okay."
