And it looks set to be magnificent as it’s the brainchild of Derry Girls creators Lisa McGee and Tobias Beer.

However, despite being a hugely popular actor who has now amassed just shy of one million Instagram followers, the 24 year old is feeling nervous ahead of his second big TV appearance.

The actor, who will be playing the part of Sean McKeough, started working on The Deceived just two days after filming wrapped for Normal People.

He said: “I had two days off after I wrapped filming on Normal People and then I started filming The Deceived. This is my second ever TV role.

“As for whether I was nervous? Totally. I don’t have enough experience to feel completely comfortable stepping onto set but everybody was so welcoming and kind on this show.

“The nerves were very much present when I stepped on set on my first day for The Deceived.

“But I’d be worried if that feeling wasn’t present because I don’t think nerves are necessarily a bad thing.”

What is The Deceived about?

The Deceived follows the life of female protagonist Ophelia, played by Emily Reid, an English student who falls in love with her married lecturer.

However, the affair is interrupted by a tragic death and Ophelia struggles to control her mind as a result.

And it looks as though Paul, who recently admitted he has to step away from social media sometimes, was very excited to take on the project, despite the initial nerves.

He said: “I am a massive Derry Girls fan so naturally the first thing that jumped out at me were Lisa and Tobias’s names, that is always going to be exciting.

“The fact that this was a psychological drama didn’t particularly surprise or confuse me because the standard of the writing in Derry Girls is so good.

“It is hilarious and the quality of the script is so high that I had no trepidation over whether this would work or not.”

Paul’s television debut in Normal People saw him becoming an overnight star, with the BBC saying it had seen 38million requests to view the series online.

Suffice to say, the 12-part series has been a huge hit with viewers since it first aired on iPlayer in April.

Those ready to watch Paul’s next role will be pleased to hear The Deceived airs on Channel 5 on Monday 3 August at 9pm.
