Nikolaj Coster-Waldau May Only Appear in 4 Episodes of the Final 'Game of Thrones' Season

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones, will only appear in four episodes of Season 8, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s daily newsletter on Thursday. THR reporter Eriq Gardner noted this spoiler in highlights of a lawsuit involving Coster-Waldau and his former manager, Jill Littman.

The 48-year-old Danish actor appeared in each of the seven episodes of the last season, but a reason was not given for why his time will be cut short for the hit series’ final season.

However, Coster-Waldau may not need all the extra screen time, because court documents also showed that he will make over a million dollars per episode in the eighth season.

THR reports that Coster-Waldau earned $942,857 per episode in Season 7, and saw a raise to $1,066,667 per episode for Season 8. He also reportedly got a $1.5 million advance of the show’s profits.

In August, Coster-Waldau shared with The Huffington Post why he is satisfied with the show’s ending.

“I wrote the writers when I finished reading and just said, ‘I don’t think you could’ve done a better job at finishing this story,’” he said. “To me, it was very satisfying but also very surprising and all the things that I was hoping for. It still made sense. It wasn’t like one of those where the killer is suddenly revealed in the last act and you go, ‘Oh! I didn’t see that coming.’ Here, they’ve done a really, really good job.”

HBO released the following preview of what fans can expect to see when the show returns in early 2019.
