Neighbour's seething note demands mum keep her kids quiet

Cranky neighbour’s seething note divides opinion after asking mum to keep her kids quiet when playing footy outside and slamming an ‘illegal’ caravan in her yard

  • A frustrated neighbour addressed a mother living in the street with noisy kids
  • They asked the woman to keep them quiet while they play football outside
  • But not everyone was sure that was a fair ‘ask’ and liked the idea of kids playing

A cantankerous neighbour has written a note addressed to ‘number 19’ in a bid to quieten down their children and remove the ‘illegal’ caravan in their front yard but opinions are split over whether it’s warranted.

The anonymous neighbour’s note was posted in the WA Incident Alerts Facebook group by ‘Sophie from Mandurah’, suggesting they live in Western Australia, and received thousands of comments.

It starts by recognising ‘Sophie’ only just moved into the street so hopefully will be open to hearing some of their ‘concerns’ after her living situation.

‘Your kids are kicking the footy which at times they get so rowdy they wake us all up. There are a few shift workers in this street whom are affected,’ it read.

‘Your direct neighbours are not happy as the footy bangs against the fence and this makes their dogs bark, which then wakes up the whole street.’

The note continues by asking the mother to be ‘quieter and respect us’ to avoid ‘outside agencies’ needing to be involved in the matter.

‘Also you have a caravan on the property with someone living in it. You need permission from the council. Thank you, your neighbours.’

Some of the note readers jumped to Sophie’s defence and were pleased to hear her children sounded like they were just ‘enjoying being kids’.

‘Thank you number 19 for being a fantastic mum for letting your kids be kids. We are elderly and go down south to a farm stay over the Christmas school holidays in our caravan, there’s kids and dogs (dogs are on leads) running and playing with each other and what a joyful noise they all make and yes it makes us smile, we where young once and so where your neighbours,’ one woman wrote.

‘If I got that note, I would probably have considered trying to keep the kids noise level down a bit – until the outside agencies’ threat. I’d buy the kids a drum kit,’ said another.

A third added: ‘Really who cares if someone is in a caravan during these times of very few rentals. How cruel really to go on about this. I could not care if every single home in WA had a caravan in their yard at this time’.

But others felt as though the note made a genuine point about noise levels during the day.

‘I think anything hitting the fence repeatedly would be annoying to any human being, a bit of respect goes a long way. Kids have all the right to play in their own homes but there is no need to hit the fence all the time to have fun,’ said one person.
