Trying to get rid of baked-on grime and grease from your oven door can be challenging.

But a clever Australian mother has found a very simple method to remove the stubborn stains for good – without spending hours in the kitchen scrubbing.

She said she had tried every product imaginable to clean her dirty kitchen appliance but nothing seemed to work – until she used a dishwasher tablet and warm water which stripped the grime almost immediately.

The process simply involved dipping the tablet into a pot of warm water and then using it to gently rub off all the stains on the door.

How do dishwashing tablets work?

Phosphates: As one of the main ingredients in dishwashing detergent, phosphates remove calcium deposits and assist in breaking up food stuck to dishes, pots and pans.

Enzymes: These biological catalysts work on the cellular level to break down food deposits and remove oil and grease by loosening proteins and peptides.

Bleaches: Detergent contains a small amount of chlorine-based bleach to further dissolve food deposits and provide additional cleaning.

Surfactants: Another small but essential element in washing powder, surfactants prevent water spotting, leaving dishes looking fresh and clean after drying.

‘After years of using strong chemicals and a tonne of elbow grease to clean my oven I am amazed that all it takes is a dishwasher tablet, warm water and a light scrub,’ she wrote in the Mums Who Clean Facebook group.

‘I didn’t think it would be that easy.’

The woman was so impressed with the outcome, she decided to share her ‘before’ and after’ pictures to show the results.

‘Pot of warm water, dipped the dishwasher tablet in and lightly used it to scrub the glass,’ she said of the process. ‘Back and forth dipping into the water to keep it moist and washing the grime off.’

The ingredient in dishwasher tablets breaks down food particles and stubborn grime and grease, which helps remove stains with ease.

Many people who saw the results were thrilled about trying it out for themselves, while others shared photos of their incredible results.

Filthy oven racks which are coated in burnt food can be transformed to pristine condition using a dishwashing tablet and tin foil

It’s not the first time dishwashing tablets have been used to transform the inside of a dirty oven.

One clever mother recently shared her clever trick – using tin foil and a dishwasher tablet – for restoring racks which had become coated with burnt-on food.

For those wanting to try the hack, the mum explained the dishwasher tablet needs to be placed inside the tinfoil, and the racks will need to be soaked in a bathtub filled with hot water for at least two hours.

Once they’ve soaked, remove, rinse thoroughly, and wipe down with a cloth.

The trick works so efficiently because of a chemical reaction between the foil and the dishwasher tablet.
