The website description of the gown reads: ‘Moncler’s latest Genius Project collaboration – 1 Moncler Pierpaolo Piccioli – unites the label with Valentino’s creative director who looked to dreaminess, extravagance and soulfulness to inform striking pieces such as this black quilted gown.

‘The nylon outer has the signature lacquered finish and is filled with lightweight feather and down, then shaped with a fitted off-the-shoulder bodice and a full skirt with Lemlem designer Liya Kebede’s exclusive patterned border.

‘Choose it as an avant-garde alternative to classic evening wear.’

It isn’t the first time the fashion brand’s designs have been mocked online, with Moncler drawing some flack from fashion fans for a 2018 collaboration – a collection of oversized jackets and trousers which some said look like the ‘Michelin man’.

British designer Craig Green was challenged with interpreting the trademark down-feather puffa jacket as part of a project.

However, the exaggerated silhouettes for the Moncler Genius drew some unusual comparisons including Disney’s Big Hero 6 character Baymax, micro-animal the tardigrade and Horace Slughorn from the sixth Harry Potter movie.

One person on Twitter joked: ‘In case you were wondering where you could get a Michelin man cosplay.’
