Meghan Markle sparks latest celebrity engagement ring trend

Meghan Markle‘s sparkle appears to have ignited a trend amongst celebrity brides-to-be.

The Duchess of Sussex’s one-of-a-kind engagement ring from British jeweler Cleave & Co., which features a three-carat cushion-cut diamond from Botswana set on a yellow gold band, may have provided inspiration to rocker John Mellencamp and “Schitt’s Creek” star Emily Hampshire when they proposed to Meg Ryan and Teddy Geiger, respectively.

“Teddy’s ring follows one of the biggest trends we’ve been seeing this year: yellow gold,” Kathryn Money, the vice president of strategy and merchandising at Brilliant Earth, told Page Six Style.

“With celebrities like Meghan Markle and ‘The Bachelorette’ [star] Becca Kufrin also opting for yellow gold engagement rings, we don’t see this trend slowing down.”

Estimated to cost between $12,500 and $15,000, Geiger’s sparkler features an approximate 1.5-carat heart-shaped diamond set on a yellow gold pavé diamond band, according to Money.

The 29-year-old singer confirmed Friday that she and Hampshire, 37, are engaged.

As for Ryan’s ring, which is estimated to cost north of $12,500, Money believes the round diamond in a wide yellow gold solitaire setting weighs around 1.5 to 2 carats.

“Meg’s ring also follows the yellow gold trend, which continues to be a favorite among celebs,” she said.

Ryan, 56, announced her engagement to Mellencamp, 67, on November 8.
