Meghan and Harry ‘to spend Christmas away from Wills and Kate amid rift rumours’

Kate Middleton and Prince William will reportedly not spend Christmas with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry following rumours of a rift between the sisters-in-law.

It is believed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will spend Christmas with the royals at Sandringham.

Kate, William and their children, meanwhile, are reportedly planning to spend the festive season at the Middleton family mansion in Berkshire.

There have been recent rumours of a rift between William, Harry and their wives.

Meghan and Harry recently unveiled plans to move out of Kensington Palace – where the Cambridges live – and set up home in Windsor instead.

There are also recent reports of a "ghastly row" between Meghan and Kate, which sparked the current feud.

Kate’s mum Carole confirmed in her first ever interview this weekend that she has planned a less formal Christmas day for her children and grandchildren, suggesting William, Kate, George, Charlotte and Louis will join them on December 25.

Instead of following the strict schedule of a formal church visit and an extravagant lunch served up by the royal butlers, Carole’s essentials are "mince pies, mulled wine and mistletoe."

A royal aide reportedly said about the "ghastly" row that drove a wedge between the royal couples: "Kate had a quiet word with Meghan. It escalated rapidly after Meghan complained to Harry that she had been ‘told off’.

"He took her side, while William defended Kate, who was five months pregnant with Louis and certainly didn’t want this sort of confrontation."

Prince Charles had engineered a get-together between the two couples at Kate and William’s country home after Meghan felt she didn’t feel welcome with all members of the royal family.

The rumoured fall-out did not blow over in the lead up to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding at St George’s Chapel, in the grounds of Windsor Castle, on May 19.

Kate was reportedly reduced to tears following a bridesmaid fitting for daughter Charlotte.

Meghan, who is expecting her first child with Prince Harry in Spring next year, may now have to work harder to build bridges with Kate and William.

But the rift may not be fixed anytime soon, as she and Harry are moving away from Kensington Palace, the home and office space they share with William and Kate, to Frogmore Cottage in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
