Get ready to scream for some Marvel-themed ice cream! Ample Hills Creamery, a Brooklyn-based ice cream company, is slated to release a limited-edition collection of three superhero-inspired flavors on Monday, July 1, in celebration of 80 years of Marvel.
Us Weekly can exclusively reveal that the trio of tasty treats, which will be produced in partnership with Disney, not only honor the universally adored comics, but are inspired by some of the world’s greatest superheroes.
The flavors include one inspired by Captain America, another that channels Black Panther and a third that honors Spider-Man. The Cap-themed frozen dessert features old-fashioned vanilla malt ice cream with pieces of house-made Brooklyn Blackout cake and ribbons of chocolate pudding, while the Black Panther-inspired treat consists of black raspberry ice cream mixed with chunks of housemade, single-origin chocolate fudge.
Last but certainly not least, the flavor inspired by Peter Parker’s alias boasts a sweet cream base swirled with cherry pie filling and mixed with pieces of housemade, flaky pie crust. Each flavor was not only inspired by the heroes themselves, but also took into account their compelling origin stories and the enduring themes of their respective, iconic films.
“In my previous life I was a sci-fi screenwriter. I would have given my left arm to work with Marvel!” Ample Hills Creamery cofounder Brian Smith tells Us. “It’s been a thrill to collaborate with them on these original origin stories. When we found out we could make Captain America, Black Panther and Spider-Man ice cream we knew we wanted to do mini-comics and wrap them around our pint containers.”
Smith adds that he and his team, which includes his wife and Ample Hills cofounder Jackie Cuscuna, even wrote stories and sketched out illustrations in an effort to bring these flavors to life both inside and outside of the cartons.
“It was important to us to capture the superheroes in our Ample Hills Creamery watercolor aesthetic and yet remain faithful to the look of the old comics,” Smith notes. “With Marvel’s superheroes, we didn’t think of flavor first. We studied the characters, their backgrounds and origin stories. We let them lead us to a flavor.”
Ample Hills Creamery’s Marvel ice cream flavors will be available nationwide at the company’s scoop shop locations and online starting July 1. It can also be purchased at select wholesalers. The pints are available individually in-shops, or packaged as a collection online. As an added bonus, the shipping box will also feature a special-edition, one-of-a-kind art piece for the first 500 online orders.
