Luke Combs reveals new EP ‘The Prequel,’ breaks Sam Hunt’s streaming record

Luke Combs is anything but brokenhearted these days. He is, however, breaking records with his new music.

The country singer’s new single “Beer Never Broke My Heart” was released May 8, and it’s already his sixth top 10 hit. The song was streamed more than 11 million times its first week on the market, the highest in history for a country singer. The record previously belonged to Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Backroad,” which earned 7 million streams in the same time frame.

Combs currently has the top two spots on Billboard’s country streaming songs chart, which means fans have likely listened to “Beautiful Crazy” and “Beer Never Broke My Heart” more than 20 million times in the last week.

More new music from Combs is less than one month away. He revealed Tuesday his much-anticipated EP “The Prequel” will be available June 7.

The five-song project was produced by Scott Moffatt, co-written by Combs and includes “Beer Never Broke My Heart.”

The other songs on “The Prequel” are: “Refrigerator Door” (written by Combs, Jordan Brooker); “Even Though I’m Leaving” (written by Combs, Wyatt B. Durrette III, Ray Fulcher); “Lovin’ On You” (written by Combs, Thomas Archer, Ray Fulcher, James McNair); and “Moon Over Mexico” (written by Combs, Ray Fulcher, Dan Isbell, Jonathan Singleton).

“The Prequel” may be just around the corner, but fans haven’t tired of his debut album, “This One’s for You.” Home to Combs’ No. 1 hits, including “When It Rains It Pours,” “Beautiful Crazy” and “She Got the Best of Me,” the collection has spent 35 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, which ties it with Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” for the fifth-longest reign in the chart’s history.

In June, fans can catch Combs on the fan-voted CMT Music Awards, where he’s nominated for Video of the Year for “She Got the Best of Me” and CMT Performance of the Year for “Beautiful Crazy” from “CMT Crossroads” with Leon Bridges. The CMT Music Awards will air at 7 p.m. June 5 from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on CMT.
