We have watched her on our screens through the highs and lows, but now Lucy Mecklenburgh is embarking on “one of the most exciting journeys” of her life.
That’s right, the Essex beauty is having a baby with her long-time partner, Corrie star Ryan Thomas. The stunning couple met while competing on Bear Grylls’s survival show, Celebrity Island, which sees celebrities living in nature without luxuries.
It was an experience that Ryan described as “horrendous” but surely this means that if they can both survive that, then having a child should be a walk in the park. Lets take a look at what we know about their little one so far…
How Lucy and Ryan announced the news
Lucy announced the wonderful news back in August on her birthday, just two months after Ryan proposed to her during a romantic getaway in the scenic Amalfi Coast.
The TOWIE star shared the news on her Instagram page with a sweet snap of her and fiancé sat surrounded by metallic balloons as they unwrap a baby grow. Underneath the image the 28 year old starlet wrote: ‘Best birthday present I’ve ever had. Love you @ryanthomas84,” accompanied by a string of baby emojis.
Naturally, fans and friends were quick to flood the comments section with messages of congratulations. TOWIE cast member, Georgia Kousoulou was among the first to write to the happy couple, saying: “OMG congratulations.” While Brooke Vincent, Ryan’s Coronation Street co-star, simply wrote: “So exciting.”
Shockingly this was also the way that some close friends and family found out too. Ryan’s brother Adam was blind sighted by the news and commented: “What!!!!!!! Is this a wind up!!!!? I can’t believe it!!!! Am gonna be an uncle !!!! So happy man congrats guys !! X” [sic].
But perhaps the most surprised was Ryan’s 10 year old daughter Scarlett, his child with former Corrie star Tina O’Brien. Lucy and Ryan secretly filmed the youngster at a family gathering being given a box labelled ‘open me’. She followed the gift’s instruction and pulled out a balloon which had the words "you're going to be a big sister" written on its side.
The little girl hugged the couple and sobbed what she confirmed to be “happy tears”. Ryan shared the video clip with his followers alongside the caption: ‘…when Scarlett found out she was going to have a little brother or sister”, accompanied by a heart emoji.
Lucy is having a baby at the same time as Lydia Bright
Best friends Lucy and Lydia Bright, who starred together on TOWIE, are both pregnant at the same time. When Lucy announced her pregnancy, Lydia excitedly commented: “Wohooooooooo, we can finally scream it from the rooftops. Can’t wait for our babies to be best friends.”
She also accidentally spilled the beans on when Lucy’s due date was, writing: “We have experienced a lot together but I have a feeling this is going to be our favourite adventure ……… #5DaysApart #DoubleTrouble.”
Lydia has previously revealed that her little bundle of joy is due to arrive in February 2020, so we can deduce that Lucy’s will be coming that week too!
Lucy is suffering from morning sickness
In a post on her website, Results With Lucy, the reality star recently revealed that she has been suffering sleepless nights and terrible morning sickness.
She wrote:"I’m writing this from the bathroom floor, which is where I have been for most of the night puking up. I am SO tired. Sleeping on a towel, on the bathroom floor, is actually possible and it’s not because I’m drunk…
“Although I do feel like I’m hungover most of the time just without the fun night before… Why the Hell is it called MORNING SICKNESS!? I had suffered evening, all night and the morning just to top it off."
The star also described how she knew she was pregnant when she first started to become sick, writing: "Smells were making me super nauseous and I felt an overwhelming tiredness to go with it which his what made me think 'hmmmm maybe I could be pregnant!?!'…

"In the morning, my general routine has changed to wake up at 4 or 5am, feeling starving and sick. I usually take a calm walk to the kitchen to make toast and a cordial.
"Humming to distract that awful nauseous feeling; holding my nose because the smell of the fridge, flowers, diffuser and well, frankly the smell of ANYTHING makes me feel sick. I then pray that the toast will make the sickly feeling go away!"
And finally… the baby’s gender
Yesterday (September 4) Lucy excitedly shared that she has received the results of her baby’s gender. The pregnant star teased her fans by uploading a video of a white envelope to her Instagram page. On the video she wrote: “Our bubbas gender in is here!!!!”, with a shocked emoji and blue and pink heart emojis. [sic]
She also tagged Ryan in the video. She then said: “Oh my God, my gender results! I wanna open it so bad! It’s gonna kill me this, I’m gonna have to hide it somewhere, can someone come and pick it up please and hide it for me?”
The gender reveal party is expected to be happening this weekend, if Lucy can wait until then! In fact, we’re not sure we can…
