Lady Colin Campbell left Good Morning Britain presenters gobsmacked with a shocking outburst on Thursday’s show during a debate on cuddling in the workplace.

The segment followed the news that team building exercise firm Team Tactics is launching a Cuddle a Co-worker event, which they say will boost workplace morale.

The socialite and former I’m A Celebrity star, 68, appeared on the ITV show alongside Lindsay Meadows, a ‘cuddle therapist’ who charges her clients £45 an hour for hugs.

Lady Colin wasn’t convinced by her job title, comparing it to prostitution and said that those who pay to be hugged by her have ‘moral and psychological problems’.

GMB host Ranvir Singh was clearly baffled by comments, and her jaw visibly dropped.

Ms Meadows, who runs her own cuddle clinic in Brighton, said cuddling boosts the immune system and stimulates the release of positive chemicals like dopamine.

But Lady Colin – who admits she doesn’t enjoy hugging people she doesn’t know well – wasn’t convinced by her job title, saying being paid to cuddle or cuddling your co-workers is ‘dangerous’.

She told Ms Meadows: ‘I like hugging who I like to hug and I want to be hugged by whom I want to hug.

‘Professional hugging skates very close to prostitution because the fact of the matter is affection has got to be sincere, spontaneous, natural to be desirable.

‘If it’s paid, if it’s a professional you’re getting very close to not only moral problems but psychological problems.

‘If people have a problem and need to be hugged they can have their own arrangements with colleagues. I’m sorry I think it’s very dangerous.’

Ranvir’s jaw dropped as she listened to the Lady Colin’s rant, before jumping in to defend Ms Meadows, saying that cuddling your co-workers is a good way to build friendships.

She had been hugging her co-host Kate Garraway before the segment began, as Kate revealed they had hugged when they arrived for work that morning.

Ranvir said: ‘Some of my best friends are people I’ve met through work and that all started with warmth and a hug.’

Ms Meadows, who is from the US but now lives in the UK, said she knows that not everyone likes to hug but believes it is the ‘best way to communicate’.

She said: ‘It builds confidence and it’s a way to give compassion to people, and touch is the best way to communicate.’

Fortunately the pair seemed to iron out their differences and Lady Colin allowed her opponent to give her a cuddle at the end of the show.
