Ikea's '£9 Christmas tree' voucher deal is back

There’s something special about a real Christmas tree, from the smell of the pine to how natural it can feel in a home.

They can get expensive, though, especially if you don’t know where to buy.

Savvy shoppers have been taking advantage of Ikea’s annual Christmas deal for ten whole years now, as it returns for 2021 to save us all a few pennies.

For a decade, the Swedish furniture retailer has been giving customers an opportunity to bag a tree for £9 – with a few small caveats.

Customers can purchase a real fir tree for £29 from Ikea, receiving a £20 voucher that effectively takes the price to under a tenner.

Available at participating Ikea stores in the UK from Monday 22 November, the vouchers will be given at the point of purchase, then valid to use in the New Year (specifically from 10 January to 13 February 2022).

You’ll also need to use the voucher in a physical store, and unfortunately can’t be used for meatballs or gravlax at Ikea’s restaurants. It also can’t be used for kitchen or installation services offered.

If you normally get a real tree and you know you’ll spend the voucher, however, it’s a great deal.

The cheapest equivalent trees on the British high street comes in at around £18, so make sure you’ve got an Ikea shop planned to make use of your bonus. Otherwise, the savings don’t apply.

This year, Ikea is selling locally-sourced Nordmann fir trees in their stores. For example, Scottish and English locations will have trees grown in Scotland, while Wales will have Welsh trees.

The trees come in a variety of sizes – with a maximum height of 170 cm – so customers can choose the one that best fits their home.

Anna Liakh, Commercial Activities Leader, IKEA UK and Ireland, said: ‘Over the festive season, a beautifully decorated tree can become a focal point of any space. We’re really happy to be bringing back IKEA’s real Christmas trees for another year, offering affordable, high-quality trees for customers to enjoy.

‘With the added bonus of a £20 voucher to spend in the New Year across our range of homewares in-store, we hope to spread the festive cheer for a few more months to come!’

The flatpack chain also highlighted that the trees are all biodegradable, so can be recycled or composted responsibly once the festive season is over.
