How to register to vote in general election with deadline tonight

Time is running out for you to cast your vote in the general election.

All UK citizens must register to vote by the end of today (November 26) if they are to take part in the general election on December 12.

The vote will see the British public have their say on who they wish to run the country in the wake of Brexit chaos and NHS crises.

Looking for your support in the vote are the likes of current prime minister Boris Johnson for the Conservative Party, the Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn , the Liberal Democrats fronted by Jo Swinson, and the Brexit Party led by Nigel Farage.

But who will emerge victorious? The current polls and odds have their suggestions but that can all change come voting day.

Here's how to assert your democratic right to vote – remember people would die in other countries for this very same right.

How to register to vote

You can register to vote on the government website here.

You must be aged 18 to vote in the general election and will need your National Insurance number – but can still register without one.

Registration must be completed by the deadline of 23:59 on November 26, 2019, for the December 12 election.

If you wish to apply for a postal vote then apply by 5pm on November 26, 2019, if you are in England, Scotland, or Wales.

The deadline for a postal vote has already passed in Northern Ireland.
