At the end of Ariana Grande’s fourth studio album Sweetener, released today, you’ll notice a 40-second silence follows the album’s final song, “Get Well Soon.” You, like me, might guess the dead air is a mistake. It’s not.
As fans quickly pointed out online, the silence brings the song’s total run time to five minutes and 22 seconds. What’s significant about that last number?
On May 22, 2017, a bomber killed 22 people – many young fans – at Grande’s Dangerous Woman concert in Manchester, England. The 25-year-old singer has since said the tragedy left her with PTSD, telling People: “I don’t think I’ll ever know how to talk about it and not cry.”
After an emotional memorial concert last year, the singer once again wanted to pay homage to those who lost their lives.

The singer’s fans also took to social media to praise Grande for the poignant tribute.
Now that we’ve gotten the crying out of the way, it’s time to wipe those tears and turn up “Successful.”
