Heartbreaking reason criminal ‘kicked out of 27 jails’ breaks down in tears

A violent inmate at a notorious prison which housed Moors murderers Myra Hindley and Ian Brady, and serial killer Rose West, was moved to tears in a new documentary tonight.

Troi Brown has been transferred from 27 prisons in four years for attacking members of staff and inmates and in prison for nine of the last ten years.

But tonight, he was shown breaking down in tears at HMP Durham after recalling his childhood.

In new Channel 4 show Prison, the dad – who was jailed for possession of a firearm and kidnap – is asked to write to his 10-year-old self.

The therapy session leaves the lag desperate to turn his life around.

"When I was ten years old I was sat in crack houses watching people inject heroin," he revealed.

"I watched a woman overdose and die when I was ten."

Struggling to fight back the tears as he talks about his child, Brown said: "My son just turned six and I’ve missed it all.

"We’re very close. When I spoke to him the other day he said, ‘Daddy I don’t want no presents, I just want you for my birthday.’"

Spurred to change his ways, he added: "My life’s too much sometimes. I don’t want to be nobody. I’m living a life I don’t want to live no more. I hate it.

"I broke a long time ago. It just didn’t show."

Earlier in the show, Brown was seen ranting about the prison officers – branding them "liars".

He ranted: "Been here a f***ing week with no proper tea, no phone call home.

"It’s a high risk situation and every one of those wearing black trousers and white top is likely to get it from me. They’re front line.  They’re a bunch of f***ing liars, I’ll knock them all over the place."

The new documentary series centres around different criminals at HMP Durham, a category B nick in the north-east.

Staff, such as prison officer John Matthews, make some startling revelations.

He said: "He [an inmate] just grabbed me by the throat.

"He has attacked staff three times in the last three weeks, second time it’s been me. I’m just unlucky."
