Heartbreaking moment in the new Dumbo trailer that has people in tears

Dumbo, the story of the sweet circus elephant with the over-sized ears, is undeniably a family favourite.

Tim Burton’s live action reimagining of the 1941 Disney classic is set to hit screens in March next year – and a new full-length trailer has been released.

Fans have taken to social media to express their excitement about the upcoming remake, but one scene in particular has people in tears.

There’s a heartbreaking moment where little Dumbo’s mum is taken away from him in a carriage.

He reaches out to her and she can be seen looking at him with tears in her eyes through the bars. It’s all very upsetting.

One fan wrote on Twitter: "Saw a two second clip from the Dumbo trailer and burst into tears. When he reaches to his mum oh my heart".

Another said: "can’t cope with the new dumbo trailer/film.. baby elephant separated from her mum pulling right on my heart strings".

"10/10 don’t think I should see it in the cinema cause I’ll be a mess," said someone else.

"Gosh I’d have to be in the right frame of mind to watch Dumbo it used to make me cry when I was younger. I can’t imagine how I’d be now my mum is no longer with us. But I do love #Dumbo," a fourth said.

Others have said that the moment where Dumbo wears the sad clown make up has really "got to them".

For those who haven’t seen it before, Dumbo is the story of an elephant mocked for his large ears. Dumbo is too clumsy to be in the circus so is a clown.

His mum lashes out when he is ridiculed, is declared mad and gets taken away.

With the help of a a mouse named Timothy, Dumbo discovers he can fly.

An elaborate stunt at a circus performance is staged to prove it and Dumbo is reunited with his mother.

The movie seems to generally follow the same plot and stars Colin Farrell as Holt Farrier, who is a former star of carnivals that is recruited, along with his children, by circus owner Max Medici, played by Danny DeVito.

Some people have also made the important point that keeping animals in captivity for entertainment purposes is cruel.

Many hope the film will help to convey that message.

"No elephant or any wild animal should be exploited in a circus. Hope this movie spreads that message," one said.

Dumbo will hit screens on March 29 next year.
