‘Grease’ prequel: ‘Summer Nights’ to explore Sandy and Danny’s early love

The “Grease” saga is living up to the famed lyrics: “Tell me more, tell me more.”

Paramount Pictures is developing “Summer Nights,” a prequel to the epic 1978 musical “Grease,” which immortally highlighted the ’50s high school love story of John Travolta’s Danny and Olivia Newton-John’s Sandy.

The studio has tapped screenwriter John August (“Big Fish”) to pen the prequel script, his publicist Bebe Lerner confirms to USA TODAY.

The prequel will use the song and lyrics from “Summer Nights” as the jumping off point to the story of how the two lovers met.

The song paints a picture of young, carefree love in the summer before Sandy and Danny found themselves expressing clashing school personas in social cliques at Rydell High School — Danny a greaser and Sandy an Australian innocent.
