Girl, 17, found dead outside Belfast hospital named as ‘beautiful’ teen

Grief-stricken friends of a "beautiful" teen found dead outside Belfast City Hospital have described her as a bubbly young woman who would "light up a whole room".

Tara Wright has today been named locally as the "amazing and funny" 17-year-old who was tragically discovered shortly before 3am on Sunday next to a grey MG.

Mystery surrounds how she was brought to the hospital and by who, however police are keen to track the movements of the MG vehicle.

Around 25 minutes before Tara was discovered, a silver Mercedes was found on its roof in undergrowth in Castlereagh. A man was taken to hospital.

Police confirmed they are linking Tara's death to the crash which happened roughly four miles away, near the edge of the Northern Ireland capital.

A postmortem is due to be carried out to establish how Tara died.

The "loving" teen is now being remembered by pals who have taken to social media to express their grief and shock at her death.

Close friend Neo Godson said his heart "is completely broken".

In a poignant online tribute accompanied with photos of the teen, he said: "Tara you were such an amazing, funny and kind person – a best friend to me.

"You walked into the room and just put a smile on everyone’s face! You brought the laughter to anywhere you went. You knew how to just make everyone happy. You were just so amazing and unique.

"All of the memories I have of us I will cherish forever.

"I would do anything in this world to hear your voice one more time. I love you always and rest easy beautiful."

Amie-Leigh Hickman wrote: "Rest easy Tara. don’t know what’s round the corner these days. Such a loving beautiful girl who I had a privilege of knowing, love u."

Molly Cunningham added to the Mirror Online: "She was a very bubbly girl filled with so much life and would light up the whole room, such a lovely girl and it’s a shame she passed at such a young age with her whole life ahead of her, especially the tragic way she passed.

"Rest easy Tara. Never do know what’s going to happen. Appreciate your loved ones while you can."

A third described Tara as a "lovely girl taken far too soon."

And Ellis Quigley added: "Can’t believe I only saw Tara yesterday and saw that smile that would make anyone’s day and now she’s gone. The funny memories of work and night outs seeing her will be cherished so much.

"Sending so much love and prayers to her family and friends."

Chief Inspector Michael Gregg said earlier today that the investigation "is at an early stage".

He added that they believed there is a link between the crash, which happened on Ballygowan Road in the vicinity of its junction with Manse Road, and the discovery of the teen’s body.

He said: “I also want to appeal to anyone who was in the Belfast City Hospital/Lisburn Road area of the city this morning and saw a grey MG, to please call us.

"We need to know how this young girl was brought to the hospital, by whom and from where.

“If you have information about the collision, or the circumstances surrounding the death of this young girl which you believe could assist our investigation, please, pick up the phone and call us on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference number 227 of 24/03/19.

"I would also urge anyone who may have captured footage of the collision on Manse Road or of a grey MG in the area of the City Hospital to call us.”
