Netflix and no chill! After the success of 2018’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, rom-com fans are rabidly awaiting the teen romance’s sequel, which doesn’t yet have a release date.
Netflix announced the follow-up in a December 2018 letter to devotees of the original film. “To All The Fans I’ve Loved Before, I miss you,” the letter read. “I know it’s only been a few months and I swear I wasn’t trying to avoid you, I just didn’t know how to answer your question without lying to you. The truth isn’t always simple or straightforward — and as we all know too well, dating contracts have a way of quickly getting complicated. But, the letters are out … it’s true. A To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before sequel is coming to Netflix.”
As with the first movie, the sequel will be based on the YA book series of the same name by Jenny Han. In an interview with IndieWire Opens a New Window. , Han expressed hopes that a sequel to the Netflix film would draw inspiration from P.S. I Still Love You, the second book in the series. “There’s so many things in the second book that I would love to see in a sequel,” the novelist said. “The whole reason why I wrote a second book was for the character of John Ambrose McClaren, who is a fan favorite, and he’s a favorite of mine too. I would love to see that explored, and also there’s a character called Stormy that I love to write. I would love to see that.”

Familiar Faces
Lana Condor and Noah Centineo will reprise their roles as Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky, respectively. The actors’ involvement in the sequel was announced in Netflix’s December 2018 letter. “Yes, you can seamlessly continue to run your #Covinsky fan accounts because your dream stars Lana Condor and Noah Centineo are in on it too,” Netflix said in the letter. “So let’s do this. I promise the next chapter will be worth the wait!”

Lara Jean’s family is staying intact. Once again, John Corbett will play dad Dr. Covey, Anna Cathcart will play younger sister Kitty, and Janel Parrish will play older sis Margot.

Rent Live star Jordan Fisher has joined the cast as John Ambrose, one of Lara Jean’s letter recipients. Jordan Burtchett played the part in a mid-credit scene in the first film.

Old Friend, New Character
13 Reasons Why star Ross Butler, one of Centineo’s pals in real life, will play Trevor Pike in the sequel. “His real-life friendship with Noah brings a natural chemistry and great rapport to the set,” producer Matt Kaplan told Entertainment Weekly Opens a New Window. . “And we can’t wait for fans to see this friendship play out onscreen.”

New Director
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before director Susan Johnson is continuing on with the franchise only as an executive producer, and in her absence, Michael Fimognari, the director of photography on the first film, stepped up as director of the sequel. “Directing To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film,” Johnson said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter Opens a New Window. . “Due to the timing of my other projects I won’t be directing the sequel, but as an executive producer, I am looking forward to continuing to share Lara Jean’s story and being part of this franchise.”
