Doom 2 secret finally unlocked 24 years after the game released

Great news, Doom fans. That annoying glitch you discovered nearly a quarter of a century ago has finally been officially solved.

Let us explain…

In 1994’s Doom II (Map 15 to be precise), there was a certain section of the classic shoot ’em up that appeared to gamers to be a bug.

It involved a teleporter that would display as being a secret, but would never actually trigger. Now, it turns out, that was because it couldn’t be set off by the player simply standing on it.

Instead, a little-known workaround had to be used instead.

Now, 24 years after the fact, YouTuber Zero Master has posted a video which shows the required method to solve the secret and the co-creator of Doom has finally confirmed it to be true.

“CONGRATS, Zero Master! Finally, after 24 years!” began the legendary game designer on Twitter.

“To win the game you must get 100% on level 15 by John Romero.’ Great trick getting to that secret!”

He went on to explain the trick in further detail, mentioning a “secret teleporter” which could only be triggered by an enemy.

“Secret explained: A secret teleporter is marked as a discoverable ‘secret’, but when you touch it, you never enter the sector,” he wrote on Twitter.

“So you would never get inside the teleporter sector to trigger the secret. The only way to trigger this secret is to be pushed by an enemy into it! #doom.”

If like us, you’ve been stressing over that little impassable bug for 24 years, then consider the genie well and truly out of the bottle.
