Clean eating blogger Ella Mills has delighted fans with the news that she is expecting her first child.

The food writer, who is married to the son of the late Baroness Jowell, announced the happy news on Instagram on Monday, writing: ‘Baby Mills is coming in August.

‘We’re completely over the moon and just feel like the luckiest people in the world.’

She accompanied the announcement with a picture of the couple holding a picture of their baby scan.

It has been a difficult year for the couple, who lost Matthew’s mother Tessa, a Labour former Cabinet minister, to brain cancer last May aged 70.

Ella, née Woodward, later paid tribute to the ‘warmest and kindest soul’ who ‘generously’ welcomed her into the family.

It comes as Matthew hinted he may follow his mother into politics, telling the Evening Standard: ‘My mum, before she died, said she wanted me to be an MP.’

While the businessman says he is too busy helping his wife run her food empire to run for office, he has not ruled out a career in politics in the future, adding: ‘Mum always wanted her kids to contribute as much as they possibly could.’

Ella became Mrs Mills in April 2016 after marrying Matthew in a beachside ceremony in Mustique where her mother, supermarket heiress Camilla Sainsbury, has a house.

‘I’m so happy for you both!’ Fans flocked to Ella’s Instagram on Monday evening to congratulate the couple on the imminent arrival of ‘Baby Mills’, who is due in August 2019

She promptly changed her name to Ella Mills on Instagram, before sharing a picture of some bright pink trainers with ‘Mrs Mills’ emblazoned on the back, writing: ‘We did it!’

The bride wore an elegant silk tulle ‘Marina’ bridal gown with capped sleeves from Jenny Packham, costing around £4,030, which she accessorised with a simple netted veil and a pair of silver drop earrings.

Ella, a former model, became engaged to her boyfriend in the Cotswolds in 2015 after just four months of dating.

They met when her father, former Labour MP Shaun Woodward, introduced them and had their first date at London’s Soho House.

Ella recalls: ‘Matt ordered an almond milk latte and I immediately thought, “This is my kind of guy.”‘

Despite a relatively small guest list, the celebrations are said to have gone on for four days, with the wedding accommodation – a set of private villas – costing up to £50,000 each.

The loved-up pair, who met in 2015, opened their joint business venture, a deli in Marylebone called Mae, and Ella has recently launched her second cookbook (her first was the fastest-selling debut cook book on record).

Ella has previously confessed that she wouldn’t ‘ever’ have believed she would marry at such a young age, but it was ‘love at first sight’ with Matthew and the pair felt there was no point in holding back just for the sake of it.

Who is Ella Mills aka Deliciously Ella?

Ella was a self-confessed ‘sugar monster’, who was struck down with a rare illness that attacked her nervous system and left her bed-bound, and cured herself through healthy eating.

Ella, who is the eldest daughter of Camilla Sainsbury, the supermarket heiress, and Labour MP and former Cabinet minister Shaun Woodward, blames her former diet for a multitude of problems.

Her childhood was extraordinarily privileged but her diet, by her own account, was appalling and she blames it for her poor health.

In 2011 Ella was diagnosed with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome, or POTS.

The syndrome effectively breaks down your autonomic nervous system: the system that controls everything that is meant to happen automatically in the body – so your heart beat, digestion, circulation and immune system.

She was bed-ridden 95 per cent of the time and prescribed conventional medication and steroids for about six months but they didn’t make much difference so she decided to make a change herself.

Ella tracked her progress and shared all her favourite recipes via an online blog, Deliciously Ella.

Ella, who studied History of Art at the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s University, St. Andrews, was so inundated with recipe requests that she decided to launch an app and runs regular cookery classes and supper clubs.

While Ella starts the day with a green smoothie and follows with salad bowls, hearty soups, kale chips and homemade houmous, we don’t all have the time or taste for that.

The lifestyle guru advises: ‘I think just making one small change a day is amazing, just adding in one new serving of fruit or vegetables a day is fantastic, some sweet potato wedges or guacamole make an insanely delicious addition to any meal and they’re such an easy place to start.’
