A father has gone viral after posting a picture of him kissing his six-year-old daughter on the lips – while sticking their middle fingers up at the camera.

Ian Singleton, 42, from Liverpool, shared the photograph of him with daughter Cianna, following the controversy over a snap of David Beckham kissing seven-year-old daughter Harper on the lips.

Showing his support to the former footballer, Ian posted: ‘Here’s a big shout out to all the lads out there that want to show their daughters how much you love them.’

Since posting the picture, Ian received dozens of messages of support from social media users.

One wrote ‘It’s weird that they think it’s weird, if ya get me?’, while another added: ‘The people that think it’s strange should be the ones that have a look at their view of parenting.’

It comes after David Beckham sparked a debate after sharing a snap of him giving daughter Harper, seven, a peck on the lips while ice skating earlier this week

Another Facebook user posted: ‘Beautiful father and daughter. The world has gone mad if they think this is wrong. It’s the weirdos who have the problem not the doting parents.’

However, there were also some comments which seemed to approve of the kissing, but not the rude gesture to the camera.

One commented ‘Kisses ok, but not the finger!’, while anothed added: ‘Not too keen at all about showing a lovely little girl to put her finger up. Have to be other ways to protest whilst still having some decorum.’

Speaking today Ian, who runs his own courier company, says that any parent wanting to show affection to their child should be supported.

He said: ‘Whether it’s a boy or girl at any age, it doesn’t matter. The Beckham story has just highlighted it, as long as it’s not perverted, what’s the problem?’

Social media users quickly gave their support to Ian and daughter Cianna, commenting that ‘the world has gone mad if they think this is wrong’

However, others criticised the fact that six-year-old Cianna had her middle finger up in the photograph

Ian also outlined how Cianna does not know the meaning of raising the index finger and believes it was this action that has got everyone talking.

He added: ‘It’s not a regular occurance, it’s just a statement about how neither of us are bothered.

‘It’s her way of saying, “I’ll kiss my Dad on the lips if I want to.” She’s a proper character, she’s got her own thing as well. She’s brilliant.’

It comes after David Beckham was trolled for sharing a picture of himself giving daughter Harper a peck on the lips.

One wrote: ‘I don’t care what anyone says if a dad kisses a child on the lips it’s completely wrong smd’.

Another added:  ‘she’s your daughter. .why are you kissing on her lips..?..that’s ur wife kiss…’, while a third shared, ‘I feel like a kiss on the cheek is better than that n the lips. The lips is just weird’.

However, others stuck up for the father-of-four, who also raises children Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 15, and Cruz, 13, with his wife Victoria – including WAG Rebekah Vardy.

Rebekah took to Twitter to insist it was perfectly normal, saying she kisses her children on the lips ‘all the time’.
