Deadpool Demands That Everyone "Respect Nickelback" in New Trailer For Once Upon a Deadpool

Respect the Back Feature

Deadpool is back for the holiday season, and he’s bringing Fred Savage along for the ride (but not willingly). Ryan Reynolds’s Merc with the Mouth is kicking off the holidays with a PG-13 revamp of this year’s Deadpool 2. As the trailer for Once Upon a Deadpool demonstrates, this involves filtering the violent, profanity-filled film through “the prism of childlike innocence.” Namely, kidnapping Savage, of The Princess Bride fame, and defending the honor of the “11th best-selling musical act of all time.”

“Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006,” Reynolds told Deadline on Monday. “I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining . . .”

Recreating the bedtime story framework from the classic 1987 fantasy film, Once Upon a Deadpool is a more family-friendly version of the Deadpool sequel with several scenes cut, and new ones shot with Reynolds and Savage. For every ticket sold, $1 will go to the charity F*ck Cancer — temporarily renamed to Fudge Cancer — with a limited theatrical run that begins Dec. 12 and concludes on Christmas Eve. While there’s a lot less vulgarity in this version — as Reynolds tweeted when he debuted the movie’s poster, “The only F word in this movie is Fred Aaron Savage” — Savage definitely lives up to his surname. Watch the trailer and hilarity-filled features ahead!
